BuildOne Details[Back To Top]The BuildOne will be supported by online materials including photos, text, videos, and schematics. We will cover all topics from putting it together, to repair, to getting started.
The BuildOne uses open source software and firmware. The BuildOne's design is not open source or licensed for public use, but Robotic Industries does grant a license for owners to duplicate the parts for their own personal use to repair to improve their purchased machines. Robotic Industries will provide design files, at their discretion, for replacement parts as needed.
The BuildOne firmware is based on the Marlin firmware project: https://github.com/MarlinFirmware/Marlin
The BuildOne software is based on Cura: https://github.com/Ultimaker/Cura
The BuildOne's wifi and cloud software is of an internal design that will be released as open source when the units ship.
The BuildOne, for Kickstarter and Pre-orders, will come in Black or Clear. The full enclosure add-on panels are clear for both options. The clear panels may change to a tinted green or grey for increased laser safety, but this is something that is currently in testing. We will not require you to "lock in" your color choice until this is decided.
A 1W 405nm laser can cause instant blindness if direct at an eye. While most laser cutters use far more powerful lasers, just the same it is extremely important that proper safety measures are observed. The full enclosure is required, both for its additional laser protection and because it adds a switch mechanism to shut off the laser if someone open the access door.
The full enclosure panels will likely be tinted to reduced the risks of reflected lasers, because the panels are not permanently attached (they can be removed by screws) it will remain a Class IV laser device requiring proper eye protection in case the panels are removed. We will do our best to ensure that with panels in place the risk is minimal, but it must remain a Class IV device by law.
You will have the option to change your printer color choice after the laser safety of the materials and final material choices are made.
